Course Outcomes
 
Upon completion of this training, the cadet will learn the ways in which fires are caused, the precautions to be taken to prevent their occurrence, and to minimize the risk of fire eruption on ships.
 
The cadet will be able to maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving firefighting and fire extinguishing, using firefighting apparatus and appliances provided on board.

• Minimizing the risk of fire and fire prevention

• Understanding the different types of fire extinguishers
• Fighting and extinguishing a fire
• Location of firefighting appliances and emergency escape routes
• The elements of fire (the fire triangle)
• Types and sources of fires
• Flammable material, fire hazards and spread of fire
• Fire and smoke detection systems and automatic alarm systems

 
The practical session includes live “Firefighting” scenarios.

• To train candidates to provide ‘Elementary First Aid’ on board a ship, in accordance with the ‘STCW’ – 2010 Code – (Section A-VI/1-3), and the related ‘IMO’ model course

• To ensure that all seafarers meet the minimum standards of competence and understanding of security awareness issues. These standards are placed to enhance the ships’ security levels, in accordance with the requirements of the ‘ISPS’ Code; (Section A-VI/6-1), and the related ‘IMO’ module course, in line with the ‘SOLAS’ Code

 
Target Group
 
All seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board a ship, as part of the ships’ deck crew, galley crew or interior crew. This includes crew members of any level and designation, as well as, a high leveled deck crew as the Master.
 
This course is for all personnel on the ship, whether they have designated security duties, and are part of the ship’s security plan or not.
